Community feedback on Accessline information resource

24 June 2021

Thank you to those who shared their experiences with Accessline and made suggestions about what we should include in the new information resource.

What we heard

Experiences with Accessline:

  • There was mixed understanding of what Accessline does and its purpose.
  • Some people had very positive experiences with Accessline, while others felt that the service did not meet their needs.
  • For some, it was a more clinical interaction than they were expecting or hoped for and was mainly for triaging services.
  • For others, they found the Accessline staff helpful and willing to chat while they organised a suitable referral to other supports.
  • A number of participants found Accessline staff to be knowledgeable about available services and able to provide advice on mental health issues.

Participants suggested that the following things were important for people to know when calling Accessline, or for us to include in an information resource:

  • That the service is confidential but not anonymous and you will be asked for your details.
  • That Accessline will triage people based on need and make appropriate referrals to local services.
  • That Emergency Services will be called if they feel that urgent assistance is needed.
  • That the service is operated by Murrumbidgee Local Health District.
  • That it is a free service.
  • You do not have to be at a point of crisis to call Accessline as they can connect people with a range of services for support.

Many participants felt that there is not much knowledge or understanding about Accessline in the community.

Participants felt that an information leaflet about Accessline is much needed and that the information should be presented in a clear and engaging way (not just lots of text).

The design should be clear, warm and friendly.

What happens next...

We are now writing up the content for our new information resource, drawing on the feedback that we heard from participants who gave their input.

Once we have finished the draft, we will share it on the Accessline project page and invite the community to suggest edits or give their feedback on how we can make the content more useful.

Watch this space as we would love your assistance on making this resource as helpful as possible for the Murrumbidgee community.
