The SPOT Service
The Suicide Prevention Outreach Team (SPOT) is part of the NSW Health Towards Zero Suicides initiatives being developed across the Murrumbidgee region.
The Suicide Prevention Outreach Team will provide community response for people experiencing a suicidal crisis or who may be at risk of suicide. The team will be staffed by a small number of peer workers with lived experience of suicidal distress and clinical staff.
The aim of SPOT is to help people in distress to be supported more quickly, wherever they live in the Murrumbidgee region. SPOT will provide support for people in their community when they need it.
The Safe Haven service
The SPOT service will work very closely together with two Safe Haven services with a team of staff working across all services.
The SafeHaven services will aim to be warm, welcoming spaces for people experiencing a suicidal crisis where compassionate care will be provided by peer workers with a lived experience of suicidality, in partnership with mental health clinicians.
There will be two Safe Haven locations - one in Wagga Wagga and one in Griffith.
Listening to the community
Hearing the views and ideas of people with lived experience of distress and suicidal thoughts, as well as members of the broader community, is an important part of making sure that SPOT meets the needs of the community, carers and people experiencing suicidal crisis.
We are involving people with this experience in the design and development of SPOT in a number of ways.
We have brought together small groups of people with lived experience of suicidal crisis, those who support loved ones with this experience and health professionals to take part in co-design workshops.
These workshops will involve open discussions about the needs of people in crisis and how a service like SPOT can best support them and their loved ones.
We welcome feedback, suggestions and perspectives from the Murrumbidgee community, including those with lived experience of suicidal crisis. There will be a number of ways to share your feedback as SPOT is developed.
Check this page or hit the 'follow' button for updates and requests for input as we progress.
Once the SPOT service has been designed, we will be sharing elements of this with the community for feedback. Input and suggestions will be considered in developing the final service design.
Once the SPOT service has been up and running for a while, we will be inviting people who have used the service to provide their feedback on what worked well for them and where the service could be improved.
Thank you to all those community members who reviewed the draft Model of Care for the Suicide Prevention Outreach Team (SPOT) and Safe Haven service and provided their feedback.
Your feedback is being reviewed by the project team and the Model of Care is now being finalised
